Addis Ababa (ECAE)

=================

The Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) has expanded its internationally recognized laboratory testing capabilities while maintaining its existing accreditation scopes, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Ethiopia’s national quality infrastructure and food safety system.

The Ethiopian Accreditation Service (EAS) has officially granted ECAE accreditation to conduct advanced testing for 23 pesticide residues and 3 heavy metals in honey. This expansion complements ECAE’s existing accredited testing scope for essential honey quality parameters, including pH, acidity, moisture content, water-insoluble matter, electrical conductivity, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), glucose, and fructose.

With this expansion, the Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) now holds 34 accredited testing parameters for honey samples. This broader scope enhances the nation’s capacity to deliver reliable, internationally recognized testing for honey quality and safety.

The newly granted accreditation contributes significantly to Ethiopia’s national food safety and quality assurance framework. It enhances the availability of local testing services needed to verify compliance with stringent international market requirements and reduces the need to rely on external testing services.

Moreover, the expanded testing capacity promotes a culture of quality throughout the honey value chain, supports compliance with international requirements, improves market access, and contributes to the competitiveness and export potential of Ethiopian honey producers.

The accreditation certificate was formally received by Mr. Mitiku Diriba, Deputy Director General of the Testing Laboratory Sector at ECAE, from Mr. Wondwosen Andualem, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Accreditation Service (EAS).
