PURE EARTH Delegation Visits ECAE Laboratories to Explore Collaboration on Lead Contamination Testing.

A PURE EARTH delegation led by Dr. Esmond Quansah, Africa Regional Director, visited the Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) to explore potential areas of collaboration in heavy metal analysis, with particular emphasis on lead contamination testing.
The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Mitiku Diriba, Deputy Director General of the Laboratory Sector at ECAE, who provided an overview of Ethiopia’s quality infrastructure institutions and briefed on ECAE’s mandate, laboratory services, technical capabilities, and ongoing activities.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured ECAE’s testing laboratories and observed firsthand the enterprise’s laboratory infrastructure, analytical equipment, testing capabilities, and quality management systems.
Following the laboratory visit, the PURE EARTH delegation expressed appreciation for ECAE’s laboratory capacity and technical capabilities, describing ECAE as a well-established and technically capable institution. The delegation also congratulated ECAE on its laboratory infrastructure and expressed strong interest in exploring opportunities for future technical collaboration, particularly in the area of lead contamination and heavy metal analysis.
