Training for COMESA Member States has Started Today.

The training take place from March 18 to 22, 2024. It was attended by more than 40 trainees from COMESA regional conformity assessment bodies (CBS). It was hosted by PTB, COMESA, and ECAE and held in the Ethiopian Standards Institute venue. The training was designed to build the capabilities and competencies of certification bodies (CBS) in the COMESA region in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020, 17021, and 17065 requirements.

H.E. Kassahun Gofe, State Minister of Trade Integration and Export Promotion, Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration of Ethiopia; opened the training with a speech. He described the training as critical for regional integration processes, and the government of Ethiopia is committed to working in collaboration and coordination with the COMESA region certification bodies.

Member states are required to adapt and apply a harmonized scheme for certification of goods manufactured and traded in the common market and adopt common rules and procedures for certification, the training will provide common ground for member states in harmonizing the region’s certification bodies procedures, policies and unifying regulatory frameworks. He said this when addressing participants at the opening of the training today.
