
ECAE evaluated the implementation of the 2014 fiscal year plan.
The Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) carried out its duty to provide quality assurance services and establish a fair trading system by handling 18,015 service requests in its 2014 fiscal year annual plan through the provision of laboratory testing, imported and exported item inspection, and certification services. These services include laboratory testing services for 13,485 product samples, inspection services for 3,756 imported and exported product samples and 1,694,515.05 m/ton of agricultural, industrial products and inputs, and certification services for 774 new and existing customers.
A joint review meeting for the yearly plan’s implementation with management and board members were held on July 19, 2014E.C. It was mentioned during the meeting the enterprise’s annual performance of above 95% was remarkable and that, in the near future, it may be regarded as a leading provider of services for conformity assessment.
In addition, the board members emphasized the significance of working together with stakeholders, particularly the regulatory offices and increasing the enterprise’s ability to compete for the 2015 fiscal year through widespread promotion and sales of its services. Further more, the enterprise must demonstrate that it is a credible and trusted institution in a market with other comparable international institutions and that it is necessary to be ready to provide services in response to requests from foreign buyers for third-party conformity assessment services.
Finally, as the state Minister of FDRE Trade and Regional Integration and Chairman of the Board, Mr. Endalew Mekonen, stated, ECAE is increasing its capacity with trained manpower and modern testing equipments from time to time, and by providing full capacity testing services that previously was done in foreign countries with high foreign currency, besides saving the cost of foreign currency. It is an enterprise that is contributing to the health and safety of the consumer society by checking the quality of the various agricultural and industrial products manufactured in the country as well as those imported from abroad.
